Live Edge Yew Guitar Rack
These racks have been very popular. Every rack that is made holds different numbers of guitars and highlights a wide array of edge grain. Musicians seem to be attracted to these because they are all so individual. This one was made for my oldest son to complement the first one I made for him. I never learned to play guitar very well so hopefully this endears me to the guitars in some way.
Cribbage Tables
Prior to building these crib tables I had never worked with cottonwood. It had struck me as a waste wood; no real uses BUT after building the first crib table my opinion has changed. I built the folding legs out of a Holly log from Nanaimo waterfront development. The wood is quite light and doesn't show its grain until one finishes with Varathane semi-gloss oil base finish. In our neighbourhood, everyone seems to have a crib table one can sit around with room for whatever beverage the time of day allows. Great fun so thanks to my neighbour and friend John Dyck for bringing these slabs over to the shop. Now if I could just beat him at a game, everything would be rosy.
Custom Guitar Rack
This custom guitar rack was built as a surprise birthday gift for a client's husband. The wood we decided on was Yew wood cut in 1992 on the Brooks Peninsula on Vancouver Island. This wood is spectacular in its colour and the live edge on both sides of the rack makes this project a one-of-a-kind unit.
Custom Cutting Boards
Custom Cutting Boards are the result of having beautiful pieces of wood left over from projects and the thought of burning it is unthinkable so when I can I laminate up various cutting boards. They always change and move through the shop on a steady basis. The cribbage board was a birthday gift for one of my sons. Cribbage is a game taught to me by my Mother's Mother and there is always time for a game or two.
Yew PV Handle
Good use of a Yew branch to make a handle for a log PV. Good sized piece of wood that took the entire bed of the lathe. The revived PV lives around the corner at my friends mill. A very useful tool.
