Cedar Chests

When one receives a phone call from a fellow named "Ace" it grabs your attention. This chap approached me to build two cedar chests the same as the one he purchased from a shipwright in the Charlottes 30 years previous. Ace's daughter and niece both wanted his chest as it was built with care and beauty. Ace decided it would be best to make one for each of them to avoid any sadness. So I agreed to do the project for him and he brought over the "original" chest for reference and away I went.

You can never have too many clamps as this project shows. Hand built wooden hinges and hasps were made the same as original. It was a step back in time to do this project.

Replicating an old treasure was very enjoyable as was dealing with Ace. He would often pop by to see how things were progressing. He always had a story and words of encouragement. It turned out to be a real pleasure to meet this man and have the opportunity to  recreate these chests from an original.
